“Critical Thinking for Media Literacy”

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
TESOL-Ukraine and the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine have been running a number of ELT projects over several years aimed at providing continuous professional development and sustaining an ELT professional network in Ukraine. The goal of this Winter Institute is to examine challenges EFL professionals face with the implementation of Media Literacy in the curriculum of Ukrainian schools and explore tools for critical thinking development.
TRAINERS:
Wendy Finlayson – English Language Fellow, U.S. Department of State Wendy Finlayson is an English Language Fellow with the U.S. Department of State and teaches English at Sumy State Pedagogical University in Sumy. She has a Master’s Degree in TESOL and a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish. Before moving to Ukraine, she worked in higher education and the adult education field as both a teacher and an administrator. She has provided training on best practices in second language acquisition and teaching at the local, state and national levels. Luis Perea – English Language Fellow, U.S. Department of State Luis Perea is an English Language Fellow located in Mykolaiv, Ukraine. He teaches language assessment, bilingual education and English for communication courses to graduate and undergraduate students at V.O. Shukhomlinsky National University of Mykolaiv. He holds a master’s degree in Education (English/Spanish) and a master’s in Applied Linguistics/TESOL. He has taught elementary, middle, high school, university, adult students, including doctors and nurses in the USA. He has trained teachers in the US, Mexico, Ukraine, Moldova and Lithuania. He also has over 12 years of experience in the creation of standardized language assessments. He has also taken courses in Classical Studies and Ancient Roman archaeology. Maryna Tsehelska – Director, Educational Centre “Interclass”, Assistant Professor, Kryvyi Rih State Pedagogical University Maryna Tsehelska is a director of Educational Centre “Interclass” and an assistant professor at Kryvyi Rih National University. Her main professional interest lies in cognitive methods of teaching English, which are developed and tested on the basis of Educational Centre.

16-17 січня вчителі англійської мови взяли участь у тренінгу «Особливості підготовки до ЗНО та міжнародних іспитів», який провела тренер Оксана Карпій, представник компанії «Лінгвіст».
Інтерактивні вправи, парна та групова форми роботи, різноманітні техніки та технології допомогли тренеру донести задумане та розкрити свій задум.
Активність в обговоренні свідчить про потребу вчителів у професійному спілкуванні та готовності присвячувати час та зусилля самоосвіті та професійному зростанню.
